Feeding the birds

With winter rapidly approaching, my birdfeeding activity goes way up!  I have tried to keep the feeders filled through out summer, however the evil squirrels keep popping open the lid on my sunflower seed can I have outdoors.  Then it rains and everything gets wet.  I went out this morning to see what I could salvage.  Thankfully, with the cold weather, the seed is just wet, not moldy or growing!  I put the best in the feeder and a block of suet dough.  I heard a white-breasted nuthatch outdoors too.  They make a beep-beep kind of noise when going around the trees.

Tarzan is busily kneading my coat right now.  He enjoys the texture of it and sleeps on it when he can.  Brownie is on bird patrol at the window.  She can spend hours there watching them come and go.  I have the feeder pole set up right outside the window and I can watch while online too.  I got my love of birds and feeding them from my mother.  She had us help her fill the feeders and taught us the names of many of the birds that visited.  When I was young we were visited by large flocks of evening grosbeaks.  Now it is quite rare to have flocks come this far south in the winter.  It is a real treat to have them at all.

We had a frost last night and the field behind the park is a ghostly white color.  The heater has been coming on and I am not happy about that at all!  I am hoping the judge will give me something I can live with today for support.  The genius e-mailed me and told me that he got his first unemployment check last week and if "I take it all" he will put the house into foreclosure, and I will have to pay all the back lot rent, and the dogs will go to the pound.  Now how is that for a guilt trip?  He then sent me another e-mail stating that he was never "served" papers so therefore he doesn't have to show up.  Also his "girlfriend" has been in the hospital because she has had two heart attacks in the last month and he was with her.  Thats why he hasn't been visiting Sarah.  He has some real bad luck with girlfriends it seems.  His last one "died of cancer" and the one before that had a "husband come home from Iraq".  I wonder what will happen to the next one?  LOL!  Ok I promised not to write about him here.  I guessI couldn't help it...  My bad...

I have birdfeeders as well and it's so hard to keep the squirrels away.  I guess the squirrels need to eat too ! LOL  Enjoy your Monday.

I hope you soon get some support to help out with bills. Bird see has almost double here this summer. It does get costly especially with squirrels getting most of it. Hope the day goes good for you. Helen

I love your graphic - that is awesome.  Boy, your ex has the worst luck of anyone I know.  (sarcasm).  I feed the birds too but had to cut back last winter, I was going through almost 200lbs of food a week plus the peanuts for the woodpeckers and flying squirrels.  I can't spend that much on bird seed with all the other little mouths to feed.  Thankfully we get it delivered with the weekly feed order.

I LOVE to feed the birds now, because I can JUST feed the birds...lol. At the old house I bet I could look out and see twenty squirrels out there, along with a few doing the suicide jump off a limb to a feeder, only to slip off the dome feeder protector I had on one. They learned it would knock seeds out of it anyway, then once falling to the ground they got some anyway. Out here there is no cover, no trees, no squirrels to chew up my feeders. Boy your ex is hazardous to your health if he has girlfriends dying and getting sick...good thing you got rid of him, lol. That is mean..oh well.
